What is Candy AI?
More than just a chatbot… or is it?
Candy AI is essentially an AI companion platform. However, “chatbot” doesn’t quite fit what this platform provides. It is more interactive and personal, more like a conversation with a character which gives you responses. It’s a little bit weird the first time you hear that description. It worked that way for me too.
So, what exactly is your purpose with this thing?
You can make your ideal AI character, from visual appearance to personality and tone, and then just start talking to them. But wait, how is the conversation not just a boring monologue? As you can imagine, it’s dynamic. The chat does change. The conversation shifts. It is not always good, and it is not exactly what one might call ‘real’, but sometimes the bot just does something you did not expect. It does make it fun and a little exciting.
It’s not all just text on a screen.
The AI also provides pictures, and sometimes voice messages, in a few different styles. It can make it more entertaining to engage with. Obviously, it’s not a replacement for a real conversation with a real human being, and I think we all know that, but it sure is more engaging than a simple chat.
My thoughts
Candy AI falls between a product and an experience. It’s nowhere near perfect and yes, the illusion can be broken. But when I let myself get lost in the experience rather than thinking about it too much, it became easier.
Candy AI Chat Generator
This is the part that makes things happen. It may look pretty, but if the chat falls flat, then what’s the point? Can the AI hold a conversation? For the most part, the answer is yes.
Dialogue Flow
It responds in a way that makes sense. If you’re casual and playful, it matches it. If you start going deep, it can do that, too. Nothing groundbreaking, but it’s not terrible.
Strengths and Weaknesses
The conversation can feel surprisingly human, until suddenly it doesn’t and it either repeats itself or says something odd. The way it acts makes it clear that you’re not dealing with a human, though it’s close enough to get the job done.
Memory
The AI can remember bits and pieces from the conversations you’ve had before. Sure, not everything. It can get confused now and then and not remember something important, but it’s better than being forgetful all the time.
My Verdict
Overall, I think the Candy AI chat generator works well enough. It’s not perfect, but it doesn’t have to be, really. You just need to be prepared a little bit, and you can get into it easily enough.
Candy AI Image Generator
It’s not just “additional”, it alters the experience At first, I believed that the Image Generator was just a gimmick for people that would use it a few times and then forget about it. However, once you actually use it, it changes your whole experience because now you can actually “see” the character. It really does change things a bit on its own.
The actual workflow of using the Image Generator
As I mentioned before, you input a short description of an action, or sometimes the description isn’t needed, just a few other variables, and an image gets created based on your character. Easy enough. But it’s not going to be perfect every time. It might take a little while to get the right image. Sometimes you might get it perfect. Other times you’ll be okay with it, but it might not be quite what you wanted.
The experimentation process
The thing with the Candy AI Image Generator is that it is not going to be perfect every single time. You are going to have to edit the prompt, generate, edit, generate, etc. A little bit of a loop, I’m not gonna lie. It can get annoying sometimes. However, sometimes it’s also kind of fulfilling when you finally get it right.
Is the consistency good?
For the most part, it actually really is. The character should always look the same across all images, which is what I would hope for to help keep your immersion. However, sometimes the image will show some variation in the appearance of the character. It’s not something that would cause you to stop using it but it’s something to note.
My thoughts
This extra feature gives you more than I thought, which is nice. I don’t think it’s going to be perfect every time, but it definitely does make things feel better. It almost feels a little strange not to use it once you have used it.
Candy AI Video Generation
The time is right for video
At some point, static photos aren’t that cool anymore. You start thinking, “Why not make this move?” Cue the video. It’s not designed for long-winded storytelling, but it’s a nice touch. And the change is pretty big, really.
Easy to make
Basically, you write a prompt about a character, from a picture of your own that the AI has already used. You’ll get a short video clip of this character performing some small movement. You won’t be getting a choreographed dance routine. You’ll only see them briefly.
How does it work?
First of all, I stared at the video for a little bit. I wasn’t that impressed with the quality of the video, more that I didn’t expect a transition from still to moving video. This small improvement is better for the experience. It’s not perfect, but it’s still a little better.
It doesn’t have too many options
But the video option has some limitations. The clips are not particularly long. Sometimes, when viewed up close, you may notice some strange or awkward movement, as well. Like with other features, the concept is better than the end result. (At the moment.)
Summary
This isn’t a feature that you’d rely on, but if you need it, it’s quite nice. Not a necessary function, but it’s quite cool. You won’t need it often. But it is a cool bonus.
Candy AI Key Features
- Create Your Own Custom Companion (the core feature) You don’t actually pick a character; instead, you create one. You decide appearance, tone of voice and general persona. I can assure you that this will eat up a disproportionate amount of your time. It’s a rabbit hole of sorts, and it took me more time to adjust my companion’s traits than I thought it would.
- Chats that actually develop This one has evolved over time to the point where it now remembers the gist of previous conversations. While not all information will be referenced in future chats, at the very least this gives the app some continuity that makes you feel like you’re not starting from scratch with every new interaction.
- Flexible NSFW and Roleplay capabilities You don’t constantly get told to “please avoid this content” or “please try not to use this phrase”, which is actually kind of a game-changer. The app will allow you to steer your conversation towards whatever direction you want, so you can decide where to take the roleplay. That said, that might be a good or bad thing depending on your needs. You may get carried away by the freedom or you may feel that it just lacks structure without it.
- Images and voice capabilities (the extra bit) At this point you’re not just typing anymore; you can now generate images and also have conversations through voice chat. It’s a neat feature to have, though I didn’t really use it that much in my testing.
- Token-dependent capabilities (there’s a catch) Some capabilities require you to use tokens, and that kind of makes you think twice about whether you’ll actually use those features or not.
Candy AI’s features are a mix of good and bad; they’re plenty to make your experience interesting enough, but the app isn’t really polished in some regards.
Is Candy AI Safe?
Candy AI is viewed as fairly safe from a data-security perspective, thanks to its use of encryption and built-in privacy measures. The platform applies standard protection protocols and offers discreet billing, and it states that user-generated content isn’t monitored. Some people appreciate the level of personalisation and the community around it, although others are less keen on the token-based pricing for its premium features. At the moment, the service is mainly aimed at users within the United States.
Conclusion
Candy AI feels like it occupies this space where it is more than just a chatbot, but it is still far from flawless. Candy AI does a great many things well, customization, the mix of chatting and visual output, and the overall ease of use of jumping right into a conversation, plus, sometimes, it feels like you really can just pretend like you are talking with another human.
The experience has issues, the token count gets in the way sometimes, the memory has its problems, it feels like it is always waiting to be caught in a lie, but maybe that is all fine. You might go in to try out Candy AI with an expectation of greatness and come away thinking, “Okay… yeah… not quite…” but Candy AI can be fun if you just try and enjoy the ride. I would say it is a try-out.
