Compressing multiple PET scan visits into one
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a medical imaging technique invaluable for locating tumors by providing images of glucose metabolism. PET images with other molecular tracers can provide important complementary information and a more comprehensive view of the disease. Nevertheless, they are currently underutilized because they require a second visit, weeks later, for a second scan. This option is not only expensive but also inacurate, as significant misalignments between scans may occur. This project has developed new technology enabling two tracers to be imaged in one PET scan, decreasing cost and improving the information content. Applications for a more personalized radiotherapy planning and assessment are being explored.
